About SkipSeen
An independent, free browser extension
SkipSeen is a free extension for desktop Chrome and Firefox that skips YouTube videos you've already watched when autoplay reaches them. It's made and maintained by one person, Keenan Kaufman.
Who makes it
I'm a senior software engineer. By day I build software at CoSchedule; outside work I make small, focused tools that fix one everyday annoyance and then stay out of the way. Besides SkipSeen, that includes Epocher, a macOS menu bar app for converting Unix timestamps, ShipBoard, a menu bar app that watches CI/CD pipelines across GitHub Actions, GitLab, Vercel and others, and Our People, a free iPhone app that helps families living with dementia recognise the people around them.
You can find my other work on keenankaufman.com,GitHub andLinkedIn.
Why SkipSeen exists
It exists for one narrow problem: YouTube autoplay landing on videos you've already watched. YouTube's own options either turn autoplay off entirely or don't reliably stop the repeats, and most other extensions hide watched videos from the feed without touching autoplay. SkipSeen keeps autoplay on and moves past anything you've seen. The guide to why autoplay replays watched videos goes through what YouTube's settings can and can't do, the how it works page explains exactly when SkipSeen skips and when it deliberately doesn't, and the comparison page shows how it fits alongside other tools.
How it's run
- It's free, with no paid tier, no ads and no account.
- The extension has no servers. Your watch history stays in your browser. This website uses analytics to count visitors, which the privacy policy spells out.
- It's actively maintained; the current version is 1.2.1.
- SkipSeen isn't affiliated with YouTube or Google.
